About

You’re probably saying to yourself, “This blog is such a rip-off of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations“. The truth probably did not drop far from the accusation tree. But dig deeper into that truth, just like you would if you cracked the seams to get into those durian husks…. Hopefully you’ll find some things you like about it. Or the other response is that you’ll really hate it; which is not unlike durian’s effect on people. But you see, the durian isn’t out to please everyone, it’s purpose in life is to help those who love it to enjoy its fruits.

Some truths… I am a fan of the show; a proud, unapologetic foodie. And if Anthony Bourdain ever decides to do an episode on Toronto in Ontario (affectionately known as T.O.), I hope he picks me as his guide

Ready for more truths? The blog title and logo does bear some resemblance to the show, but that’s about it. I made the logo myself, and the blog concept… as you will see is an homage / tribute to the show that has given foodies like me all over the world.. countless hours of food porn and escape.

“No Reservations”, in my opinion, was always about Anthony Bourdain’s no-holds-barred approach at describing what he encounters. It’s also a double entendre to seek out those off-the-beaten-path places.. places that would not be taking reservations. That’s the spirit and style that will embody this blog: NO PUNCHES PULLED. Though I fully intend to make restaurant reservations if need be. If you’re telling me that the act of calling ahead deters your enjoyment of the food, I question your foodie loyalties.

Other similarities I find unique to T.O. is the fact that almost every world culture that Anthony Bourdain has visited in his travels can be found representing right here. Where else can you go from Philippines to Ethiopia, Salvador to Vietnam, France to Singapore within a 7,125 sq km (2,751 sq mi) Metropolitan area? Crammed amongst its 5.5 Million residents are countless stories to be told, and I’ve found out through my own travels, that food can tell you a lot without ever uttering a word.
